About the company

Medel LLC was founded in 2013 to implement an investment project for the serial production of innovative medical devices. Medel is a Russian developer and manufacturer of medical electrets, a new family of smart implants that have replaced the classic invasive electrostimulation devices previously used in the treatment of various biological tissue damage.

Подробнее

Medel is the only research and production center for medical electrets.

Today, Medel is the only research and production center for medical electrets used in traumatology and orthopedics, and is successfully developing this field in collaboration with doctors and scientists. According to domestic and foreign experts, Medel's developments open up new opportunities for humanity in the fight against a number of previously unsolved medical problems and may become as significant a breakthrough in traumatology and orthopedics as the domestic developments of G.A. Ilizarov and K.M. Sivash, which changed global standards in the industry.

All this will not only change existing treatment standards and make them as effective as possible, but also significantly improve the quality and length of life of the world's population by changing the approach to treating one of the most widespread diseases among humans – osteoarthritis. At the same time, Russia will become the center of scientific and technological development for these innovations aimed at solving global problems.

Company founder

The company's founder is Mikhail Samuilovich Morgunov, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, developer of the basic technology for producing medical electrets suitable for use in traumatology and orthopedics (electret osteorepair stimulators). .

Morgunov M.S. was the first and so far the only researcher in the world to study methods of creating an electret state in anodic oxide films that is stable in a conductive biological environment. This unique area of physical research arose on the initiative of an outstanding traumatologist-orthopedist, scientist from the Leningrad Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Vladimirovich Rutsky.

Based on the successful global experience of using electrical stimulation in traumatology and orthopedics, Professor V.V. Rutsky proposed using more modern, simple, and safe means for this purpose: implantable structures familiar to surgeons, made of materials with electret properties.

More than 40 years of research by Professor V.V. Rutsky and his students have demonstrated the highly effective use of medical electrets in the treatment of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

An outstanding student of Professor Rutsky V.V., he is a candidate of medical sciences, traumatologist-orthopedist, doctor of the highest category, retired colonel of the medical service, chief traumatologist of the 40th Army of the limited contingent of Soviet troops in the Republic of Afghanistan in 1987-1989, author of 14 patents and copyright certificates, Viktor Pavlovich Khomutov developed his teacher's ideas by devising a new method of treating joint arthrosis using implantable orthopedic electrets. The invention was patented in Russia, the USA, Europe, Israel, Japan, and a number of other countries.

History of Medel's development:

  • 2013

Medel ranked among Russia's top 50 startups according to Russian Startup Rating
  • 2014

  • 2015-2017

Medel organized serial production of orthopedic electrets in St. Petersburg, conducted clinical trials, obtained patents in Russia and abroad, and registered the products with the Russian government.
  • 2018

Medel has begun introducing orthopedic electrets into clinical practice for the treatment of joint arthrosis in clinics in the Russian Federation, promoting the project under the IMPLESO® trademark.
  • 2019-2020

Medel received comprehensive state support from the Federal Corporation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME Corporation) for the development of production and promotion of its innovative developments.
  • 2020

Medel received grant support from the Innovation Promotion Fund to develop its designs and implement an innovative project to develop serial production technology using 3D printing.

Achievements in 2020 and plans for 2021:

1
Specialists at 160 medical facilities in 30 cities across Russia, from Leningrad to Chita, have been trained in the use of orthopedic electrets in the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis.
2
More than 50 medical institutions have already begun performing independent operations.
3
Leading research and medical institutions in the Russian Federation (N.N. Priorov National Medical Research Center for Thoracic Surgery, I.I. Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University, Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology, etc.) have initiated clinical trials and dissertations on the study and expansion of indications for the use of orthopedic electrets.
4
Work has begun with the G.I. Turner Children's Orthopedic Institute (St. Petersburg) on conducting scientific research into the use of implantable orthopedic electrets for the treatment of degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the musculoskeletal system in children.
5
Agreements have been reached with the leadership of one of the leading regions of the Russian Federation on the use of medical implantable electrets within the framework of compulsory medical insurance tariffs.
6
Clinical trials of the medical technology are planned to be conducted in leading hospitals in Israel and the United States, followed by its approval by local regulatory authorities.
7
Negotiations are underway with a major European manufacturer of trauma implants to develop and launch a joint line of new medical devices with electret properties.
